District Court of Munich: ATM bomber confesses and has to be in custody – Munich

The 25-year-old admits that he was involved in a gang that injured three officers from the special task force and damaged six police vehicles during a police operation in Germering in the course of the robbery in 2018.

According to his confession, a member of an ATM busting gang could face between three and a half and four and a half years in prison. The parties agreed on this penalty, which should include an earlier conviction, on Tuesday before the Munich I Regional Court. In addition, the arrest warrant is to be lifted so that the accused 25-year-old Dutchman can return to his home country after his release from custody in Munich to serve his time in prison.

The public prosecutor accuses the accused of having been involved in the logistical preparations for the demolition of an ATM as a member of a gang of Dutch people with mostly Moroccan roots. During the following police operation in autumn 2018 in Germering near Munich, three officers from the special operations command were injured and six police vehicles were damaged. Specifically, the then 21-year-old is said to have been responsible for renting cars that were used to spy on ATMs in the Munich area.
