Dispute with the EU over anti-corruption laws: Orbán laughs – opinion

When Hungarians followed what was happening between their government and the EU Commission in the dispute over the rule of law process in the past few weeks, they must have had the impression that two negotiating partners on an equal footing were looking for a pragmatic solution: the EU Commission had listed a few points of criticism regarding the allocation of public funds and action against corruption – and threatened the withdrawal of EU funds. Budapest, of course, was accommodating and made constructive suggestions for improvement, which are now being enacted in law. It’s clear: who wouldn’t want the state to control the allocation of public funds well, no, even better?
