For people from other cities, the discussions that Munich has been having about high-rise buildings for decades sometimes seem funny: What are they always up to down there in the south? But this view from the outside fails to recognize that the high-rise issue is a highly sensitive one, at least for part of Munich’s urban society, as it is in tension with the (partly lovingly reconstructed) historical cityscape, with the view of the Alpine chain, and also with the attitude to life a big city that retains its cosiness.
