Actress Olivia Hussey and her colleague Leonard Whiting starred in Franco Zeffirelli’s acclaimed 1968 film adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The film was a hit, being nominated for four Oscars and winning two. But at least in prudish America it also triggered a small scandal because in one scene the two lie naked in bed. During a famous dialogue from the play (“It was the nightingale, and not the lark…”) you can see his buttocks and, at least in part, her breasts. Even if it’s hard to understand in the age of Youporn: That was considered pretty daring in the 1960s.
