Dispute over money: construction freeze on the Kramer tunnel – Bavaria

Work on the long-planned bypass from Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the direction of the Zugspitze and Tyrol is on hold because the state building authority and the construction company carrying out the work are arguing about additional costs. The tunnel, which was last calculated at 365 million euros, could be even more expensive and be finished even later.

After three and a half years, Bavaria’s longest road tunnel would now be passable, at least for construction site traffic. The 3,600 meter long main tube through the Kramer near Garmisch-Partenkirchen is already completely lined with concrete on the inside, and a few hundred meters are still missing in the slightly longer rescue tunnel. All the heavy machines are still waiting at the north portal near Burgrain and in the south near Grainau, the end points of the Garmisch bypass in the direction of the Zugspitze and Tyrol. But there hasn’t been any sign of work or even of workers for two weeks now. In a dispute with the state building authority in Weilheim, the Austrian tunnel construction company BeMo has withdrawn all of its 150 people. How the major project will continue is completely unclear.
