Dispute between publishers and libraries over “online lending” of e-books. – Culture

Since the Internet has existed, the interests of German publishers have collided relatively regularly with those of the large digital corporations. While the digital platforms make money from texts, songs and films above all if they circulate unrestrictedly, publishers would prefer people to pay for their products. The dispute most recently escalated in 2019 when the European Parliament passed a reform of copyright law that obliged platforms such as YouTube and Facebook to prevent copyright infringements and to block protected material.
