From Saturday are many single use plastic products Banned in the EU, such as drinking straws, stirring sticks, balloon sticks or disposable dishes made of conventional plastic. However, consumers can still buy them until the supply is exhausted. Many other single-use plastic products must now be labeled so that consumers know how to dispose of them in an environmentally friendly way. Both measures as well as other planned regulations are intended to help reduce plastic waste and thus protect the oceans and the environment from the increasing flood of plastic. So far this has worked out tolerably. Despite decades of public discussion, according to the German Environmental Aid (DUH), Germany remains the European champion in terms of plastic waste consumption with around 228 kilos of packaging waste per capita per year.
