“Kevin – Home Alone” reboot: This original star is back
“Kevin – Alone at Home” is probably the Christmas movie par excellence. The classic will soon be rebooted on Disney + – with some familiar faces.
Every year, when decorated Christmas trees move into our living room, we snuggle up in our pajamas and watch “Kevin – Alone at home”. In the film, eight-year-old Kevin McCallister is forgotten by his parents at home on his way to the Christmas holidays. Kevin then has to spend the holidays alone and defend his house against the burglar duo Marv and Herry.
The sequel “Kevin – Alone in New York”, published two years later, in which Kevin’s parents forget their son again – this time at the airport, so that he is stranded alone in New York – was as well received by viewers then as it is today. All further sequels were not well received, presumably because Kevin is no longer played by Macaulay Culkin. Nonetheless, Disney + is daring a new reboot of the popular Christmas classic – with some familiar faces.
Kevin doesn’t return
Those who hope to see Kevin and Macaulay Culkin again with “Not Alone Again” will unfortunately be disappointed. The 41-year-old actor made it clear on Twitter that he will not be seen in the reboot.
Also, “Not Alone Again at Home” is not about Kevin and his family, but about Max Mercer’s, played by Archie Yates. When the 10-year-old’s family leaves for Tokyo on their Christmas vacation, they naturally forget him. Max then has to assert himself in a Kevin-like manner against a burglar couple who are after a valuable heirloom in their family’s house.
Buzz McCallister is back again
But don’t worry: The McCallisters haven’t completely disappeared from the film. The trailer shows that Kevin’s older brother Buzz (Devin Ratray) is returning as a policeman. It remains to be seen whether other actors from the original will appear in “Not Alone Again at Home”.
In addition to Archie Yates, Rob Delaney (“Deadpool 2”), Ellie Kemper (“Bridal Alert”) and Chris Parnell (“Anchorman”) can be seen in the film. Starting November 12, 2021, Disney + will be showing “Not Alone Again”.
