Companies including Disney, popular video game publisher Electronic Arts and Robinhood Markets are expected to benefit from NFT tokens, according to a new report from Citi.
“The advent of the NFT is a sign of disruption to any/all sectors that are exposed to intellectual property, licenses and revenue associated with goods,” Citi analyst Thomas Singlehurst wrote in a report titled “Disruptive Innovations.” noting that “the key issue is Decentralized and democratic model It allows content owners to function both in terms of distribution and monetization.”
Citi said video games and music are the industries most likely to see positive change from the influx of NFT, a blockchain-based token that will prove ownership of digital content. And NFT trading rose to $10.7 billion in the third quarter. That represents a more than 700% increase from the previous quarter, according to blockchain analytics firm DappRadar.
Other US companies that are expected to receive help from NFT include video game publisher Activision, FormulaOne Group, Discovery Inc., ViacomCBS and World Wrestling Entertainment.
European companies that are expected to benefit from NFT include entities such as video game publisher Embracer Group, Frontier Developments, Team17 Group and Ubisoft, and advertising agencies Publicis Groupe and WPP.
Citi said those companies focus on selling branded content or merchandise. and participates in NFT creation or trading, or is a service company that helps content creators explore the NFT market.
Conversely, the areas and companies most likely to suffer losses from NFT include physical video game retailers, traditional music labels and publishers, traditional video and music streaming platforms, and online ecosystems. All of which can be avoided if content creators have more direct relationships with customers.
“For clarity In each case, the rise of NFT is unlikely to be the end for these players. But it will be a pressure as the content will be more decentralized/democratic. And it can put pressure on income and returns,” Singlehurst wrote.
