Dictation and linguistics

And it was with the French test that these two days of exams started. The college students all started with the famous dictation, from Memories from beyond the grave by François-René de Chateaubriand for the students of the general series and Country without hat, a work by Dany Laferrière for those in the professional series. This 20-minute test scores ten points.

The college students then had to work for 1h10 on the grammar and comprehension test, for a total of fifty points. The pupils of the general series answered ten questions on a text by Théophile Gautier, Captain Fracasse. As for the professional series, the college students looked at a poem by Louis-Philippe Dalembert, entitled Trip.

Subject of imagination or reflection

The students then moved on to the last test, and not the least: writing. Whatever their series, college students have all had to choose between a subject of imagination and a subject of reflection. For the general series, the imaginative subject was the following: “Describe the walk of Baron de Sigognac at nightfall in the sinister garden of the castle. You will keep the atmosphere of Théophile Gautier’s text. You will specify the elements of the landscape which contribute to this atmosphere ”. If they chose the topic of reflection, they had to answer the question: “Do you like to discover literary and artistic works in which intervene the supernatural or the strange?” “.

For the professional series, the imaginative subject was as follows: “A name of a place or city makes you particularly dreamy. Describe what attracts you to this place and then tell what you would do there. You will also specify the feelings and sensations experienced ”. If they chose the topic for reflection, they had to answer the question: “Do you feel like traveling to faraway destinations or do you prefer your close surroundings?” “.
