No more hope for survivors: Rescue work after a hotel collapse in the east Chinese city of Suzhou has been stopped. 17 people were killed. The hotel had only opened three years ago.

17 dead, five injured. That is the result of the hotel collapse in the Chinese city of Suzhou. The building in the south of the city collapsed on Monday afternoon. Around 650 helpers have been on duty since then. Day and night they tried to rescue survivors from the rubble. In the end, however, they could only rescue the dead.

Hotel only opened three years ago

According to the authorities, the rescue work was ended this morning. The cause of the accident remains unclear. The hotel only opened around three years ago. According to reports from state media, the authorities are investigating the operators and managers of the hotel and the construction company, among others.

In the end, the rescue workers only recovered the dead from the collapsed hotel.
