Dirk Wurm elected the new SPD leader – Bavaria

After more than eleven years, the SPD has elected a new chairman in Bavaria’s third largest city. As the party announced, Dirk Wurm was elected to head the Social Democrats in Augsburg on Saturday. The 42-year-old was a regulatory officer in Augsburg in the past and a candidate for mayor in the 2020 local elections, but was not elected city hall chief. After the CSU and the Greens formed a new coalition without the SPD, Wurm also lost his position as a speaker. Wurm succeeds Ulrike Bahr, a member of the Bundestag, who has headed the Augsburg SPD since spring 2010. The 57-year-old Bahr is still chairwoman of the SPD district association of Swabia.
