Director’s talk on “Irre oder Der Hahn ist dead” in the Monopol cinema in Munich – Munich

First of all, there’s the matter of the rooster: It’s dead and therefore of course can’t crow anymore, says a smoking woman on the balcony: “So I have to go to the roof now.” Her interlocutor wants to know what she is doing there. When she answers, the smoker has to laugh herself: “Kikeriki!” The German documentary “Irre oder Der Hahn ist tot” accompanies people who regularly visit a Freiburg support group for the mentally ill. You get to know a mathematics student with schizophrenia, a chain smoker with psychoses, or a woman who has suffered from eating disorders and depression since puberty. Their names are not mentioned, precise diagnoses are left out, and doctors and social workers only make marginal appearances. Reinhild Dettmer-Finke has made a respectful and empathetic film, which she is currently presenting as part of a cinema tour throughout Germany. She’s coming to Munich on Wednesday, July 19. A discussion with the public is planned after the performance.
