As part of a Konami presentation on the “Silent Hill” universe, director Christophe Gans spoke about his new horror film and revealed exciting details.
Japanese video game studio Konami has been starving Silent Hill fans for years. After the mega project “Silent Hills” by star designer Hideo Kojima, Guillermo del Toro and Norman Reedus was completely surprisingly scrapped in 2015, the franchise had become quiet.
This has finally come to an end. And not only video game fans can look forward to it, because in addition to a whole bunch of new video game titles, another one has been released “Silent Hill”-Movie officially confirmed. Director Christophe Gans already knew that he was working on another horror film in this universe betrayed in the summer of 2022. Gans had in 2006 with “Silent Hill”, which you shared with the no longer so exciting “Silent Hill: Revelation” on Blu-ray as a double feature purchase through Amazon can, delivered one of the best video game adaptations and, unlike Paul WS Anderson, stayed with “Resident Evil” faithful and committed to the horror of the original.
As part of the Konami presentation, Gans, himself a big fan of the video game series, revealed the official title of his upcoming horror film: “Return to Silent Hill”. And, what fans should be particularly happy about, this is the adaptation of “Silent Hill 2”, for many the best part of the video game series:
“This return is my return to a world, a universe that I touched on 15 years ago in 2006. The film was a huge hit and we decided to go for the best of those [‚Silent Hill‘-]stories to go back. The film is about the story of a young man who returns to Silent Hill, where one of his great loves was. And what he finds there is a real nightmare.”
Fans know: In “Silent Hill 2” James Sunderland receives a letter that appears to have been written by his wife Mary. But she died three years ago. In the letter itself, she lets him know that she would be waiting for him in Silent Hill. And so he heads to this mysterious small town, only to find himself caught up in a nightmare. “Return to Silent Hill” aims to redefine the cruel world and its creatures
Unlike most other video game adaptations, Gans’ adaptation had minimal changes, sticking closely to the original. That, according to the French filmmaker, was the recipe for success. Nevertheless, it is now time to bring in your own vision:
“The ‘Silent Hil’ franchise is a great artistic achievement and I have a responsibility to bring that to the big screen. The first film was so well received by the fans because they felt I was one of them. And it was very important to me to honor the original. One of my goals with this film is to redefine the classic monsters from ‘Silent Hill’.”
The inclined fan will see typical creatures like the Pyramid Head and the creepy nurses again in “Return to Silent Hill”, that’s for sure. But there should also be plenty of new things. They have Konami’s blessing, according to producer Victor Hadida. What’s more, the video game designers stand by the film crew’s side when it comes to reconciling new creatures with the “Silent Hill” universe.
It is currently unknown when filming will begin and who will be involved. Gans only hinted that the new film already 2023 to come to the cinemas. Can the appointment be kept?
