Director of the Armory and Green Vault – Culture

Marius Winzeler becomes the new director of the Green Vault and the Armory at the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden. That was decided by the Saxon cabinet on Tuesday. “I am pleased that in Marius Winzeler we have won over a national and international networked expert for a centerpiece of the Dresden State Art Collections and life in the Residenzschloss”, said Minister of Culture Barbara Klepsch (CDU).

On October 1st, the 50-year-old will succeed Dirk Syndram, who is leaving the service of the Free State of Saxony after 28 years. He has been closely associated with Dresden and its collections since 1986, said the Swiss wine maker. In 1992 he worked as an intern in the preservation of monuments for the Green Vault. “To be able to work myself as director of these two world-famous collections, the Green Vault and the Armory, and to contribute to the further completion of the Residenzschloss as a place of communication and experience for all generations, fills me with great joy and respect.”

Winzeler worked at the Kulturhistorisches Museum in Görlitz from 2001 to 2008, and from 2008 to 2015 he was director of the Zittau Municipal Museum. At the beginning of 2016 he took over the management of the Ancient Art Collection at the National Gallery in Prague.
