Directed by Philippe Lioret, Romeo and Juliet have not aged a bit

They are young and fall in love with each other at first sight, a powerful love that will torpedo the rivalry between their families from very different backgrounds. 16 years old by Philippe Lioret is very distantly inspired by Romeo and Juliet of william shakespeare and allows you to discover two wonderful young actors: Sabrina Levoye and Teïlo Azaïs.

“Beyond communities, social differences also create discord,” explains Philippe Lioret in the press kit. Such different ways of life do not help to understand each other. She lives in an HLM complex and he in an affluent residential suburb. When the boy’s father, a supermarket boss, dismisses the brother, the handler of the young girl whom he suspects of theft, the fire is set on fire with no hope of return. To the great displeasure of the lovers that school life had accustomed to living together in perfect harmony without asking the slightest question.

A sober and powerful film

The director of Welcome is still just as comfortable describing the daily life of overwhelmed beings in a hostile society. The vibrant young people he describes are swept away by the current zeitgeist and by old traditions embodied by the heroine’s father (Arsene Mosca, excellent in a role of patriarch with chilling authority). With great sensitivity, Philippe Lioret takes up the cause for his lovebirds. His sober film tears the hearts of a spectator entirely won over to the cause of his heroes.
