Dilapidated building in the student city: Grade 5 for Blume and Bernreiter – Munich

The omissions in the dormitories for students in Munich are gradually becoming apparent; more than 1,000 apartments are already being lost. A political disaster can be seen – it needs a new start.

In the Munich student union they try to do the math: Another dormitory in the student city has to close because it is so dilapidated; at the same time, another house will soon be ready for occupancy. This results in an “effective plus” of 188 residential places in the Stusta. Sounds good, but is misleading. The house, which will soon be revived, has been renovated, so moving into it is not a real gain. The real calculation for the student city goes like this: 616 plus 440 plus 180 plus 62 equals 1298. That many places will be empty in four buildings, for an indefinite period of time, certainly for years. The main causes are serious deficiencies in the building fabric and fire protection.
