Laws in Germany are published in the Federal Law Gazette. But the printed version is now to give way to a digital one.

According to a media report, the federal government plans to publish laws digitally in the future.

This should make the previously necessary printed publication in the Federal Law Gazette superfluous, reported the editorial network Germany, citing a draft law from the Federal Ministry of Justice. This went to the other ministries for approval.

Justice Minister Marco Buschmann (FDP) told the RND: “We are making the rule of law more digital. With the introduction of the electronic Federal Law Gazette, we are now taking another important step.» This creates transparency and also makes everyday work easier for those applying the law. Last but not least, the electronic announcement saves resources. The law should therefore apply from 2023 and regulate the official promulgation of laws on an online platform operated by the Federal Office of Justice.

Laws in Germany only come into force once they have been passed and published in the Federal Law Gazette.
