Bitcoin is currently jumping from record to record. But who actually invented the oldest cryptocurrency? Who is behind the pseudonym “Satoshi Nakamoto” will remain a secret for the time being.

According to a British court, an Australian entrepreneur is not the one using the pseudonym “Satoshi Nakamoto is the founder of the cryptocurrency Bitcoin. This was said by a judge at the High Court in London on Thursday, as reported by the PA news agency. The entrepreneur Craig Wright had claimed that he was “Satoshi”. For this he was appointed by the Crypto Open Patent Alliance ( Copa) has been sued.

The foundation stone for Bitcoin was laid in 2008. An individual or group published a paper under the name “Satoshi Nakamoto” that described the principles for autonomous digital money. “Satoshi” only ever communicated with his early colleagues electronically before he withdrew after a few years.

Who is “Satoshi Nakamoto”?

There has been repeated speculation about the identity of the person or persons. In 2016, Wright declared that he was “Satoshi Nakamoto” and wanted to support the claim with the inventor’s crypto key. But experts soon expressed doubts. The judge in Great Britain now stated that Wright was not behind the pseudonym. A written judgment will be published at a later date.

Bitcoin is a decentralized digital currency that does not require a central bank or custodian. The transactions are processed via a publicly visible, non-manipulable database (“blockchain”).
