Formula 1 will not drive in China in the coming year either. Formula 1 is examining replacement candidates for the canceled race. There will be an update “in due course”. Portimao is considered a candidate. The Portuguese course in the Algarve had already hosted a replacement race in 2020 and 2021.

Formula 1 last stopped at the Shanghai International Circuit in 2019. Since then, the events have been canceled due to the pandemic. The contract with the Chinese organizer is valid until 2025. World Championship points were contested for the first time in 2004 in Shanghai.
