Dieter Bohlen: He etches against Thomas Anders – fans annoyed

What started with a small tease in Thomas Anders’ podcast, the decades-long feud between him and Dieter Bohlen boils up.

Hardly any other German band influenced the pop music of the 80s as significantly as “Modern Talking” – and hardly any other band is as divided as Dieter Bohlen (69) and Thomas Anders (60). In 2003 the band finally split up. A comeback is still out of the question. The former duo’s current favorite topic of debate: Who actually sang live in the studio back then?

Thomas Anders teases Dieter Bohlen in his podcast

An episode of Thomas Anders’ podcast “Modern Talking – Simply Different” sparked the latest discussion: during a question and answer session, a fan of the 60-year-old singer wanted to know whether pop titan Bohlen actually sang the songs himself at the time. Anders is emphatically mysterious and replies: “Actually, only Dieter Bohlen knows.” And as if that wasn’t cheeky enough, he adds: “Well, he’s never sung in my studio.”

Dieter Bohlen’s answer is not long in coming

Of course, you don’t have to be a proven “Modern Talking” fan to know that DSDS casting fright Bohlen would not leave such a tease uncommented for long. On Monday evening (July 24) he reported back to his fans via Instagram – yes, even with his own recorded voice he says to Anders’ statement: “He packs the matter in a clever way. He says I never sang a ‘Modern Talking’ song in his studio – that’s right, he didn’t have a studio at all.”

Actually, Bohlen would already have all the laughs on his side and could sit back and relax, but the 69-year-old is just not knitted that way. Of course he follows up: Thomas Anders “never sang along with a high chorus.” Bohlen continues about Anders: “He stands everywhere, on all stages, everywhere on television and sings ‘Cherry, Cherry Lady’ but he can’t do it at all.”

Fans disappointed by the eternal dispute

So is Anders really the real chorus refuser? The neutral observer is amused and confused at the same time.

But one or the other “Modern Talking” fan is also disappointed, as a look at the comment column reveals. It says something like: “Why do they actually have beef?”, “It’s worse than ‘Milli Vanilli’ and ‘Tic Tac Toe’ together” or “I think it’s such a shame that you two still get along so well years later, you both benefited from each other, you wrote such great numbers, had such good ideas, always had the right instinct and were so diligent, everyone knows and Thomas sang great, you can be so proud of what you have created…”

There is nothing to add. It would be really nice if these two music veterans were finally reconciled…
