Diem co-creator David Marcus is set to leave Meta (formerly Facebook) later this year.

David Marcus, co-creator of digital currency Diem and current leader of Novi at Meta (formerly Facebook), announced Tuesday that he will be leaving the company at the end of 2021.

inTweet Marcus writes, “After seven years at Meta, I have made the difficult decision to leave the company at the end of the year.” Bloomberg report

“While there is still a lot to do after the launch of Novi — and I am always passionate about the need for change in our payment and financial systems.”

Stephane Kasriel, now Novi’s Vice President of Product, will take over after Marcus’s departure.

“I feel comfortable and confident knowing they will continue our important mission under @skasriel’s leadership and I can’t wait to see this from outside. I know there is greatness ahead,” Marcus said.

Novi, which started as a Facebook wallet project, is said to be close to launching. It signed a pilot agreement with Paxos earlier this fall.
