Die Linke: “On the way to nowhere” – politics

from

Roland Preuss, Berlin

“The Left,” says Annegrit Ulrichs, “has nice ideas, but I don’t believe in them. Nobody takes them seriously anymore.” The party could dismiss such sentences as an attack by bourgeois people who just do not like left politics. Ulrichs, however, finds many of the demands of the left not bad at all. The gardener works in a workers’ welfare clinic, participates in the Verdi union and says: “I still experience class consciousness.” It sounds as if the Left Party could already book them for their next street election campaign, in Königslutter in Lower Saxony, where Ulrichs lives. But Ulrichs says: “The left is on the way to nowhere.”
