The European Women’s Football Championship will take place in England next summer. The Germans were drawn to a difficult group.

The German soccer players will meet Spain, Denmark and Finland in the preliminary round of the 2022 European Championship in England. This was the result of the UEFA group draw on Thursday in Manchester. The final tournament has been postponed by one year due to the corona pandemic and will take place from July 6th to 31st. The opening match between England and Austria will be played at Manchester’s Old Trafford, the final at Wembley Stadium in London.

The first opponent is Denmark

The team of national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg will initially play in group B on July 8th in Milton Keynes against Denmark. Then on July 12th in Brentford against Spain and on July 16 again in Milton Keynes against Finland. The DFB selection set in pot 1 as well as the hosts, defending champions Netherlands and France thus escaped the Olympic silver medalist from Tokyo in the group: it lost 2-1 to Sweden in the 2019 World Cup quarter-finals in France.

Germany is the record European champion

Germany is the record European champion with eight titles. The team of national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg is facing their first tournament after the disappointing 2019 World Cup and the missed summer games. England, Norway, Austria and Northern Ireland play in group A, the Netherlands, Sweden, Russia and Switzerland in group C and France, Italy, Belgium and Iceland in group D.
