After Voss-Tecklenburg separation: DFB turns its attention to the Olympics

National coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg is gone. But that shouldn’t be the focus of German footballers. The DFB Vice President is looking forward to a special tournament.
“I know how much the Olympics mean in women’s football,” said the former national player at the sports press ball in Frankfurt. The 35-year-old was herself one of the bronze winners at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

“It’s a very special feeling to compete for your country together with other athletes. That’s why the focus is on it,” emphasized Sasic.
The German Football Association had announced that the cooperation with Voss-Tecklenburg, which was recently on pause, had ended with immediate effect. After Voss-Tecklenburg’s withdrawal due to illness after the World Cup, from which the German women had already been eliminated in the preliminary round, assistant coach Britta Carlson initially took over the head position. At the beginning of October, the association installed Horst Hrubesch as interim coach. “We are prepared for the next games,” said Sasic.
On the way to the games in Paris, the Germans’ toughest competitor in Nations League Group A3 is Denmark; the DFB team lost the first leg 2-0. The second leg will take place in Rostock on December 1st. With a 2-0 win or a win with a difference of more than three goals, the Hrubesch team would take the lead in the table. The last preliminary round game will take place on December 5th with the Welsh women having no points so far. Only the group winner has a chance of taking part in the Olympics.
