DFB team
Horst Hrubesch will continue as national coach for the time being
Hort Hrubesch is heading towards the Olympics with the DFB women. The toughest test is yet to come, but the HSV idol is staying with the DFB for now.
Hrubesch stepped in at the beginning of October – as he did in 2018 – as an emergency helper for the German Football Association. National coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg reported sick after the World Cup debacle in Australia in the summer, and her contract with the DFB has since been terminated.
After Voss-Tecklenburg’s assistant Britta Carlson first took over the DFB women, Hrubesch agreed to play the remaining four group games in the Nations League. So far he has only hinted that he will still be responsible for the final tournament. It remains to be seen whether the HSV idol will also sit on the bench at the Summer Games in the event of an Olympic qualification.
In Wales, Hrubesch and the team came to a draw after three wins and remained unbeaten. In the final tournament with four teams in February, which will be drawn on Monday, two European teams can still win the Olympic ticket. France is set as hosts.
