Just under a week before the start of the European Championship, the German U21s are testing for the last time. The result against EM participants Switzerland is correct – and a youngster scores again.
Germany’s U21 national team got in the mood for the European Football Championship with a win in the last test match.
The selection of coach Antonio Di Salvo prevailed behind closed doors on Friday in Imst, Austria, 3-1 against Switzerland who took part in the European Championship. “It was a very good test, just as we had imagined. I’m very happy with the performance of the boys,” said Di Salvo.
Kevin Schade (30th minute), Jessic Ngankam (88th) and Nelson Weiper (104th) scored the goals in the game over four times 30 minutes. Previously, Dan Ndoye had given Switzerland an early lead (5th). “The processes that we trained were easy to recognize – especially on the offensive. Now it’s time to work on efficiency,” said Di Salvo.
Germany starts against Israel
The 18-year-old Weiper from Mainz was called up for the European Championship training camp for the first time by Di Salvo. He had already scored a goal in a 7-0 friendly against a South Tyrol selection at the beginning of the week. Brentford attacker Schade also scored after he left the senior national team of national coach Hansi Flick. Right-back Kilian Fischer from VfL Wolfsburg was injured against Switzerland.
Shortly before the end of the EM training camp in Prad am Stilfserjoch, it was the last test before the start of the tournament for the youth selection of the German Football Association. The defending champions travel to Georgia on Sunday, where the team will start the tournament against Israel on Thursday. Other preliminary round opponents are the Czech Republic and England. The top two teams in each of the four groups of four advance to the quarter-finals.
The team around striker Youssoufa Moukoko from Borussia Dortmund and senior national player Josha Vagnoman is going into the European Championship as one of the favorites after the last three finals in a row. In addition to the title, the ticket for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris is also at stake. In addition to hosts France, the three best teams from the European Championship are there. England competes as Great Britain at the Olympics and therefore cannot qualify.
