National goalkeeper ter Stegen has come through his back surgery well, says FC Barcelona. His doctor usually expects a recovery time of around two months for such an operation.

The treating doctor generally treats an operation like that of a German national soccer goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen is starting from a break of around two months.

This is the normal recovery time after an operation like that of the 31-year-old, Amélie Léglise told the Spanish radio station Cadena Ser. The French woman had the operation on her back on Friday. Léglise’s statement referred to operations of this type, not specifically to ter Stegen.

After the operation, FC Barcelona announced that their German keeper had survived the procedure well. The return depends on further developments.

Ter Stegen missed the DFB team’s two test games against Turkey (2:3) and in Austria (0:2) because of back problems and also had to watch Barça’s subsequent games. He had been in goal for the national team in eight of nine international matches this year until his November loss.

Bayern captain Manuel Neuer said on Prime Video that he had not yet had any contact with his national team rival after Ter Stegen’s back operation. “We are in regular contact,” Neuer immediately added on Prime Video.

With a view to the home European Championship next year and the competition with Ter Stegen, the 2014 world champion explained: “I think that you also have to understand that we are teammates, that we all want the same thing, that we want to try that we are playing a great European Championship in our own country. And that, no matter how it turns out in the end, we will have a top goalkeeper between the posts.”
