Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen and, surprisingly, 1. FC Saarbrücken have reached the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup.

Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen and surprisingly also 1. FC Saarbrücken have DFB Cup quarter-finals.

The third division team from Saarland, which had already knocked record champions FC Bayern Munich out of the competition in the previous round, won at home against Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 (0-0). Kai Brünker (64th minute) and Luca Kerber (78th) scored the goals for the clear outsiders. Frankfurt’s Noel Futkeu was shown a red card in the final phase after an attack.

Leverkusen solved their compulsory task against second division team SC Paderborn with a confident 3-1 (2-0) win and remained unbeaten in the 21st competitive game of the season. The goals for Bayer were scored by Victor Boniface (12th), Exequiel Palacios (29th) and Patrik Schick (87th). The goal conceded by Sebastian Klaas (83rd) was less problematic for the big cup favorites than the injury to national player Florian Wirtz, who had to be substituted shortly before half-time after being kicked on the heel.
