DFB Cup: Freiburg out – BVB through – Sport

Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen showed no weaknesses in the second round of the DFB Cup. BVB moved into the round of 16 with a deserved 1-0 (1-0) against league rivals TSG Hoffenheim, Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen solved the compulsory task at third division side SV Sandhausen after some difficulties with 5:2 (1-0).

However, there was a rude awakening for SC Freiburg. Coach Christian Streich’s team surprisingly lost to second division team SC Paderborn 1:3 (0:2).

Dortmund celebrated a successful dress rehearsal for the league clash on Saturday (6.30 p.m./Sky) against series champions Bayern Munich. Marco Reus (43rd) scored the goal for coach Edin Terzic’s superior team. TSG ended the game after yellow-red against Ozan Kabak (90th + 4) with ten players.

Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso sent a B team onto the pitch and initially rested Florian Wirtz and Granit Xhaka, among others. The Werkself were initially superior to Sandhausen in all respects. Exequiel Palacios (21st, penalty kick) scored for the guests before the break. After the change things got wild. Christoph Ehlich (50th) equalized, Jonathan Tah (54th) put the favorites back in the lead, Yassin Ben Balla equalized again (57th). Adam Hlozek (85th) and Amine Adli (88th, 90th + 2) saved Leverkusen from embarrassment in the final phase.

Freiburg, in the cup semi-finals last season, showed a weak performance. Paderborn appeared confident and were rewarded with goals from Filip Bilbija (4th, 56th) and Florent Muslija (33rd). Maximilian Eggestein (69th) shortened for Freiburg – but that was no longer enough. The round of 16 (December 5th/6th) will be drawn on Sunday.
