TSV 1860 Munich gave FC Schalke 04 a bitter knockout on a big cup evening. In the duel between the traditional football clubs, the passionately fighting third division team beat the favorites 1-0 (1-0) in front of 15,000 spectators in the stadium on Grünwalder Strasse on Tuesday evening. “Berlin, Berlin, we’re going to Berlin,” sang the euphoric 1860 fans on Giesing’s heights. Stefan Lex shot the lions with his goal in the 5th minute into the last sixteen. After the red card in the 48th minute for Schalke defender Malick Thiaw because of an emergency brake against Lex, 1860 claimed the lead. The Schalker Pokal-Aus was deserved and self-inflicted.
Schalke coach Dimitrios Grammozis initially refrained from using striker Simon Terodde. Instead, the first big accent was set by Löwen striker Sascha Mölders. The captain took the ball from Darko Churlinov with robust effort, passed Lex, who overcame Schalke goalkeeper Ralf Fährmann. The aggressive sixties stayed on, a Lex shot hit the crossbar (22nd).
It took Schalke some time to log into the game. Grammozis replaced the indisposed Churlinov early with Thomas Ouwejan. The regular player immediately shot dangerously from a distance (29th). And Marius Bülter extended a free kick with his head, but 1860 goalkeeper Marco Hiller steered the ball to the crossbar (31st). The guests came out of the cabin sleepy again. Outnumbered, the Schalke reared up. Terodde came but didn’t sting. Lex had the 2-0 on the foot, but forgave (69th). Hiller parried a shot from Bülter class (79th). On the other side, Fährmann prevented Mölders from making the decision (84th). After the final whistle, the 1860 professionals celebrated happily on the pitch.
Leipzig just wins in Babelsberg
RB Leipzig reached the round of 16 of the DFB Cup with an arduous job victory. The Bundesliga runner-up won his second-round duel with 1-0 (1-0) on Tuesday evening at the fiercely fighting regional league club SV Babelsberg 03. The cup finalist from last season can continue to dream of participating in the final on May 21 in Berlin. Dominik Szoboszlai (45th) brought the huge favorite into the round of 16 (January 18 and 19, 2022) with his golden goal. A successful cup season ended for the fourth-class Babelsberger, in the first round the team around ex-Leipzig Daniel Frahn had eliminated first division promoted SpVgg Greuther Fürth on penalties.
Hertha wins with difficulty
