DFB: After the resignation of Oliver Bierhoff – what the desired successor Bobic is now demanding | Sports

Who will be the successor of Oliver Bierhoff (54)?

The 1996 European champion resigned as national team director on Monday evening. Matthias Sammer (55) is not available for a full-time role. The new hot favorite is therefore Fredi Bobic (51).

The acting head of sports at Hertha BSC commented on the rumors about him on Wednesday morning:

Bobic: “Of course the rumors have picked up speed since Sunday. It’s interesting how dynamic this is. Many names are chased through the village. This is completely normal. When my name comes up, people take notice. But nothing more.”

When asked by BILD whether he would leave Hertha for a job with the DFB, he explained:

“It’s a lot could have, could have… Hypothetically, you can imagine a lot in football and you can never rule anything out. You never know what will happen. I wasn’t anxious for my name to come up. It’s an honor, but I’m not looking for a job. I can not say more about that.”

So Bobic leaves his DFB future open! He is happy at Hertha. “I have a job here, I feel very comfortable. I can feel things turning in the right direction. It was a tough year and a half. I had three days with 777 (New investor at Hertha Note d. editor) to do, they were here.”

At the same time, he demands that the DFB should initially be about tasks instead of names.

“Now it’s about content and profiles. What does the DFB actually want for German football? What is a sports manager profile, what is the content? Regardless of the name. The DFB should first agree on names and content, where do we want to go?”

Regarding Bierhoff’s resignation, he explains: “I’m a long way from the fact that Oliver Bierhoff is the culprit. In the end, performance counts. Has left his mark over long distances and has moved a lot. But in the end, sport is what matters. I get along really well with Olli, he’s a good guy.”

It’s not just about “The Team” THAT is what Bierhoff did wrong!

As one of six DFL supervisory board members, Bobic is currently also concerned with the future of DFL boss Donata Hopfen (46), which will be decided in Frankfurt today, Wednesday. He will only be present at the session online. At the same time, Hertha is hosting a Christmas party for the employees, which he will attend. Tomorrow, Thursday, he flies to a long-planned vacation in the USA.
