After his dismissal at Chelsea, Thomas Tuchel spoke for the first time. The 49-year-old made no secret of his disappointment and thanked all employees.

After a mixed start to the season with only ten points from six games and a defeat in the Champions League, Thomas Tuchel was released at Chelsea. Now the German coach has commented on his expulsion for the first time.

In a statement Twitter Tuchel writes: “It’s one of the most difficult statements I’ve ever had to write – and I would have hoped I wouldn’t have to make it for many years. I’m devastated that my time at Chelsea is over.”

The 49-year-old continues: “This is a club where I have felt at home, both professionally and personally. Thank you to all the staff, the players and the fans who made me feel welcome from the start to be.”

“I will always remember the pride and joy I felt in helping the team win the Champions League and Club World Cup. I am honored to have been a part of this club’s history , and the memories of the past 19 months will always have a special place in my heart.”

Tuchel does not go into the reasons for his dismissal. In the past few days there has been speculation about a rift with owner Tedd Boehly, different ideas about squad planning and interpersonal problems with the team. The Athletic even reported that the new owner had suggested a 4-4-3 tactic in a meeting with Tuchel – i.e. with eleven field players. However, Boehly has denied this report.

Tuchel’s successor was the previous Brighton coach Graham Potter on. He is said to have been the absolute dream candidate of the new blues owners.
