Deutschlandradio: election of director postponed – media

Because of the announced rail strike, the election of the artistic director planned for Thursday on Deutschlandradio will be postponed to December. The public broadcaster announced.

For legal reasons, the election may only take place in a face-to-face session. Because of the strike, the meeting of the Radio Council on Thursday will be held virtually and the election will be removed from the program. The train drivers’ union GDL has called for a five-day strike in the passenger transport of Deutsche Bahn from this Thursday from 2 a.m. to Tuesday morning in the coming week. The background is a wage dispute. It was actually planned that the radio council at Deutschlandradio would decide on a second term of office for director Stefan Raue in its meeting on September 2nd in Berlin. The 62-year-old has been in office since September 2017, his contract runs until August 2022.

The board of directors, which is empowered to do so by state treaty, had proposed Raue for a second term. The term of office is five years. The Radio Council has around 45 members and consists of representatives from the federal states and the federal government as well as socially relevant groups. Deutschlandradio, based in Cologne and Berlin, includes the Deutschlandfunk, Deutschlandfunk Kultur and Deutschlandfunk Nova programs.
