120 years ago, Oskar von Miller inspired people with his idea: Munich needs a large technology museum. It’s supposed to be a house that “people flock to like the stalls at the Oktoberfest”.
At the turn of the 20th century, groundbreaking inventions changed people’s lives. Innovations such as telephones, refrigerators, electric cars, trains, subways, diesel engines, reinforced concrete and X-ray machines are admired at world exhibitions. Paris and London already have their own technology museums – civil engineer Oskar von Miller would like to have something similar in his hometown of Munich. The “masterpieces of science and technology” deserve their own museum, he thinks. 120 years ago – in the spring of 1903 – he convinced his colleagues in the Association of German Engineers of the idea.
