Deutsche Post: Ministry wants longer letter delivery times – Economy

Deutsche Post should be given more time to deliver letters, and at the same time they should reach consumers more reliably. This emerges from a draft of a new postal law presented by the Federal Ministry of Economics on Friday, which also relies on more competition and new competencies for the Federal Network Agency. The regulator of the mail market should in future be able to take more effective action against “anti-competitive pricing”.

The Post’s competitors repeatedly accuse the group of price dumping in its large customer business. With regard to letter postage, the current price determination process should be retained, but details would be adjusted. The formulas, which the postal service has repeatedly criticized and which are used to calculate specific price increases, are to be changed. The plans could have a significant impact on Deutsche Post, which has been struggling with significant declines in mail volumes in the Federal Republic’s letter market for years.
