Deutsche Bahn: Railway renovation threatens to fail spectacularly – economy

Delays and train cancellations happen at Deutsche Bahn (DB) even without a strike. Large parts of the rail network have been neglected and dilapidated for decades. Sometimes signal boxes and switches don’t work, sometimes outdated tracks and bridges cause the timetable to get messed up. In order to get the railway back in order, the traffic light coalition had agreed on a major renovation program for the rail network. The state-owned company DB should receive an additional 45 billion euros from the federal government over the next few years for the renovation of the rail network.
