Former CDU politician Roland Pofalla has been on the board of Deutsche Bahn since 2015. Now he is announcing his retirement.

Former Chancellor Ronald Pofalla is leaving the Deutsche Bahn Board of Management after seven years. The 62-year-old wants to give up his mandate at his own request by April 30, as the railway announced on Tuesday.

Pofalla gave personal reasons for this. “After more than seven years with the company, it’s time to start the next phase of my life.”

Pofalla’s contract was only extended until July 2025 a year ago. The move from the former CDU politician to the state-owned company was controversial in 2015.

Pofalla heads the infrastructure department of the railway. This also includes the Stuttgart 21 construction project. The costs for this are expected to increase by another billion to 9.15 billion euros, as was leaked in February. The Supervisory Board is expected to discuss this at a special meeting on March 18.
