William and Kate choose ‘private’ hideaway in Balmoral for their summer holidays | Royal | News

The Prince and Princess of Wales, along with their children, will be spending their summer holidays in Scotland but they won’t be staying in the main Balmoral castle.

Even though the 50,000-acre Balmoral Estate offers plenty of room for the royals, Prince William and Princess Kate have chosen to stay in their own private residence with Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight and Prince Louis, five.

The royal couple have their own property on site, a cottage known as Tam-Na-Ghar, which was gifted to Prince William by his late great-grandmother, the Queen Mother.

The cottage has three bedrooms and is within close proximity to Birkhall, which is King Charles and Queen Camilla’s residence.

The Prince and Princess of Wales have chosen to keep their Scottish home extremely private with very few images of the property available.

The annual trip north of the border is one of the Royal Family’s long-standing summer traditions, when the family get to hunt, horse ride and fish.

Balmoral is nestled in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, between Ballater and Braemar.

It’s located approximately 50 miles west of Aberdeen.

The estate is also home to Balmoral Castle, where the Queen and Prince Philip stayed for their holidays.
