The Blues showed interest in 2022, and CBS Sports claim that Boehly personally reassured the Mexican that he would make sure the club reignite their interest in due course.
But Chelsea have pursued other midfield options this summer, and the Hammers look set to snap up the £35million-rated star instead.
Not delivering on their promise has left Alvarez in a sticky situation, whereby he may not know whether to stick around and wait for the Blues or jump at his first opportunity to seal a Premier League move.
