It’s well known that the dinosaurs were obliterated 66 million years ago by a massive asteroid that slammed into Earth.

Now, researchers have confirmed in a new study that the cataclysmic event, called the Chicxulub impcat event, occurred in the northern hemisphere’s spring.

An amateur archaeologist exploring a dried-out, ancient stream channel called Blackwater Draw near Clovis, New Mexico, made a startling discovery in 1929. Geology: Asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs 66 million years ago hit Earth during northern SPRING

Ironically, the dinosaur-killing asteroid that plunged Earth into a prolonged ‘impact winter’ likely occurred in the late Spring to early Summer 66 million years ago.

This is the conclusion of a team led from the University of Manchester who studied deposits at the Tanis fossil site in North Dakota that formed at the time of the impact.
