Nicaragua’s Sheynnis Palacios has been crowned Miss Universe 2023 at the 72nd annual beauty pageant held in San Salvador last night – making history as the first delegate from Nicaragua to win the title.

In addition to Sheynnis’ victory, the event saw several more historic firsts, including two mother candidates, two transgender women and a plus-size individual.

American Academy of Pediatrics says it still backs transgender healthcare for children under 18 – including sex-change surgeries

America’s leading child doctors are continuing to back transgender healthcare services for minors under 18 – despite concerns about long-term risks.  

The influential American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) voted to stand by its 2018 guidance that supports access to counseling, hormone therapy, puberty blockers, and occasionally surgery. 

But the AAP has commissioned a systematic review of those treatments, which are becoming increasingly common because of the sharp rise in gender dysphoria diagnoses among minors.

Organizers of Miss Universe have backed transgender women competing in their glitzy competition – as long as they have had gender-affirming surgery.

The world-renowned pageant bosses say ‘trans women are women, full stop’, as Miss America also tightened its rules to match.

It comes after Rikkie Valerie Kolle, 22, won the Miss Netherlands title, and will be the second transgender woman to perform in Miss Universe.

Swimwear giant Seafolly have claified who their official female brand ambassador is amid widespread criticism for allowing a non-binary activist to promote their brand.

British-born, New York-based model Joanna Halpin, 31, has been the official face of the celebrated swimwear brand’s latest campaign, Summer Somewhere, since early February.
