Anglo-Saxon burial containing 141 skeletons is unearthed by HS2 archaeologists in Buckinghamshire

An Anglo-Saxon burial ground containing 141 individuals along with grooming items including ear wax removers and a cosmetic tube that could have contained eyeliner has been unearthed by archaeologists working on the HS2 high-speed rail project in Buckinghamshire. 

In total, 141 individuals – men, women and children – dating from the fifth and sixth centuries AD were found near the market town of Wendover, making it one the largest Anglo-Saxon burial grounds ever uncovered in Britain.

Skeletons of over 40 people are unearthed on the site of a 500-year-old Spanish hospital in Lima

Archaeologists have unearthed the remains of 42 humans in a cemetery next to a Peruvian hospital that dates back to the 16th century, when the country first became part of the Spanish empire. 

The skeletons were found in the courtyard of Hospital Real de San Andres, a former hospital in the centre of Lima, the capital of Peru.

Archaeology: Some 400 Roman burials including several HEADLESS skeletons uncovered near Aylesbury

Decapitated skeletons — perhaps criminals or outcasts — have been found in a Roman cemetery uncovered at Fleet Marston, near Aylesbury, during HS2 works.

Archaeologists from COPA have spent a year excavating the roughly 2,000-year-old burial site and adjacent settlement, which lay on Akeman Street, a key Roman road.

The largest of its kind known from Buckinghamshire, the cemetery was found to contain the remains of 425 individuals, around 10 per cent of whom were beheaded.
