Emmanuel Macron has scrambled his Foreign Minister to evacuate French citizens from the west African country of Niger, after a military coup has thrown the country into chaos.

The first French flight out of Niger arrived in Paris in the early hours of Wednesday morning (August 2).

France is planning to evacuate its citizens from Niger, where a military junta ousted the Nigerien president last week in a coup.

“An evacuation is being organized” and “will happen rapidly,” France’s foreign ministry said Tuesday.

The announcement comes after Niger’s top military brass announced last week on national television that they had overthrown the country’s president Mohamed Bazoum.

Queensland town of Maryborough ordered to evacuate the CBD as storm water system fails amid flooding

A Queensland town has been ordered to evacuate the entire CBD immediately as walls of water surge towards it. 

Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour issued the warning to all residents in Maryborough’s CBD in a post to Facebook on Sunday afternoon. 

‘There has been a failure in the stormwater system under the barricade. People should evacuate from the CBD immediately,’ he wrote.
