Leak detected in Druzhba oil pipeline, Polish operator says – POLITICO

Poland late Saturday halted shipping oil through part of the Druzhba pipeline, which carries oil from Russia to Europe, after a leak was detected, Polish pipeline operator PERN said.

The incident comes amid heightened concerns about the security of Europe’s energy infrastructure after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last year and following attacks on the Nord Stream gas pipelines that run from Russia to Europe.

‘TB detected’ at RAF site as plan to house migrants in tents reported | Politics | News

A “small number” of positive results for tuberculosis (TB) have reportedly been detected at a former RAF site that is being used to house asylum seekers. The Press Association reports it is understood that tests are now underway to see if the cases at RAF Wethersfield in Braintree, Essex are ‘active’.

TB is a bacterial infection that usually affects the lungs. It is spread through close contact with people who have ‘active’ TB, meaning they have symptoms.

The U.S. Navy heard the likely sound of the Titanic tourist submersible imploding shortly after it was reported missing, according to a report – and yet still a massive rescue effort was launched, and the families kept on edge.

In a first, JWST detected starlight from distant galaxies with quasars

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. — For the first time, astronomers have detected starlight from distant galaxies that host extremely bright supermassive black holes called quasars.

Data from the James Webb Space Telescope reveal that four of these galaxies are massive, compact and possibly disk-shaped, astronomers report June 12 at the JWST First Light meeting. Omicron variant now detected in 33 states including ALASKA as the US eclipses 50 million Covid cases

The Omicron strain of COVID now makes up three per cent of all new US infections, the CDC has warned, as case numbers grew to 189 across 33 states, and the White House warned a ‘large wave’ of the strain is approaching.

Data from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that around one in 30 new Covid diagnoses are being caused by Omicron, with 97 per cent caused by the Delta strain.

Second US case of Omicron COVID-19 variant detected in Minnesota

A second case of the Omicron COVID-19 variant has been detected in the U.S. in a man who had recently attended an anime convention in New York City last month with more than 50,000 attendees.

The Minnesota Department of Health confirmed the infection on Thursday in a resident who lives in Hennepin County, which includes Minneapolis.  

He was fully vaccinated and had mild symptoms, but has since recovered.
