England will offer Covid jabs to ALL over-5s: Vaccines will be rolled out on ‘non-urgent’ basis

Healthy children aged five to 11 in England will be offered two Covid jabs on a ‘non-urgent’ basis, it was announced today.

No10’s vaccine advisers have said that the jabs will protect a ‘very small number of children from serious illness and hospitalisation’.   

Officials stressed that the offer is not urgent because Covid poses such a tiny risk to children. Experts estimate as few as 0.001 per cent of youngsters who get infected will die, with the risk even lower

The Omicron Covid variant makes all major vaccines ‘markedly’ weaker at preventing infection after two doses, another lab study has found.

All Britons over the age of 18 were today made eligible for Covid booster vaccines as ministers try to shield against an incoming wave of the Omicron variant — as more cases of the super strain were detected in Scotland and England.
