Last year, Klopp was enraged by Hamann’s comments regarding his assistant Lijnders. Klopp asked Hamann to “have balls” and to criticise the head coach instead, sparking a war of words between the pair after Hamann felt that it was improper for the number two to release a book with insight into the Liverpool team while still in a job at Anfield.
“The alarm bells should have been ringing for Liverpool fans when the current assistant manager wrote a book while still employed by the club,” Hamann tweeted in February 2022. “How he was allowed to do it, I’m not too sure.”
Klopp responded: “I just don’t like it if you go for the wrong people – go for me, that’s fine, but don’t go for other people. I get an awful lot of money to face these situations, and my life is fine. Don’t criticise them [staff who can’t respond] – have the balls and go for me, then the confrontation can happen.”
