Harry Kane deal edges closer as Bayern Munich lunch ends in Germans willing to spend big | Football | Sport

Talks lasted well into the afternoon, but although the German champions are willing to break their £80m transfer record, they remain £20m short of Tottenham’s valuation for the 30-year-old England captain who has just a year to run on his contract.

The Tottenham chairman is also insisting on a buy-back clause so that if Kane decides to take one last shot at breaking Alan Shearer’s Premier League record, the chances are it will be back with the club that has nurtured him through from the age of 11.

Despite his long ties with the north London club, Munich are confident Kane is ready for a new challenge if a fee can be agreed with Spurs and have no doubts that there will be no issues when formal talks begin.

Getting Levy to agree a deal remains a huge stumbling block, though, with a man who is notoriously one of football’s toughest negotiators playing hardball despite the fact Kane can walk away from the club for nothing in 12 month’s time.

Munich chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen and technical director Marco Neppe were spotted at Munich airport on Monday morning ahead of their flight to England and were reported to have headed into a central London restaurant to meet with Levy.

There were no plans to conclude a deal there and then, and the Munich pair have returned to Germany to chew over the inclusion of the buy-back clause and whether they are willing to pay top dollar for a player who turned 30 last week.
