Chelsea owner Boehly gives update on Moises Caicedo transfer after Brighton get record bid | Football | Sport

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has supposedly told fans that he is ‘working on’ signing Moises Caicedo from Brighton. The Blues were rocked on Wednesday when it was claimed that the Seagulls had received an offer above £80m from an unnamed club.

Caicedo appears to be Chelsea’s top target heading into the final month of the transfer window. Mauricio Pochettino wants to find the perfect midfield partner for club-record January signing Enzo Fernandez.

But Brighton are remaining firm that the Ecuador ace will not be sold for anything less than the nine-figure fees that saw Chelsea sign Fernandez and Arsenal prise Declan Rice from West Ham.

Chelsea’s latest offer of £80m was swiftly rejected by Brighton. Boehly has supposedly insisted to a fan that the club remain in talks over a potential transfer.

Supporter @Feroze17 claimed that his friend had bumped into the American businessman on Wednesday night and asked about Caicedo. Boehly allegedly said: “It’s tough but we are working on it.”

It comes after The Athletic reported that Brighton have received a mammoth offer for Caicedo from an unnamed club. It was later suggested by Sky Sports that the club in question was from Saudi Arabia, although their previous pursuits of Europe’s top players have been extremely high-profile.

Pochettino said that his midfield was an area the club needed to improve after Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Borussia Dortmund on Thursday morning. The Blues have not replaced Mateo Kovacic after the Croatian joined Manchester City.

Asked if he was happy with his midfield options, the Blues boss said: “No, I told you that we need to improve in all the areas. I am happy with the midfield but we also need to improve this area.”
