A man in Soest in North Rhine-Westphalia did not notice that his pot of Bolognese sauce, which was left on the stove, had almost caused a fire in the apartment. The reason: He was too absorbed in gambling.

Although smoke was spreading in his apartment, a man in Soest remained seated in front of his game console. A fire department spokesman reported that the emergency services were amazed when the residents of the smoke-filled rooms did not let themselves be disturbed while gambling despite the arrival of firefighters.
